The Appeal Tribune primarily serves the two largest communities in its
area, Silverton and Mt. Angel.
Silverton is home of The Oregon Garden. The 60-acre first phase of the
planned 240-acre botanical garden opened in June 2001. Silverton is also
known as the gateway to Silver Falls State Park and for its quaint, historic
downtown, complete with penny parking meters. Annual festivals include
Homer Davenport Days, the Silverton Criterium bicycle race, the Silverton Fine Arts Festival, and the Father's
Day Strawberry Festival.
More than 350,000 people descend upon Mt. Angel annually for its Oktoberfest
celebration. The four-day festival each September has put the Bavarian
town of 2,000 on the map, as thousands come to listen to German music
and indulge in food and drink. The Mt. Angel Abbey, a Benedictine monastery
and seminary, draws visitors year round to its hilltop location. Its tranquil
setting looks over the Willamette Valley.
The Appeal also serves the communities of Scotts Mills, Marquam, Central
Howell, Victor Point, Monitor, and Pratum.
