FEBRUARY
First Citizen's Awards Banquet

MAY
Silverton Hospital Fun Run

Held in early May, the annual Silverton Hospital Fun Run is something for the whole family. One-mile and five-kilometer runs and walks. Silverton Hospital, 503-873-1500.
Cooley's Gardens Peak Bloom Festival
Mid-May to mid-June when the irises are at their peak. The festival allows irises to be admired in display gardens at well as in an indoor cut-flower display. Wine tasting and entertainment. Cooley's Gardens, 503-873-5463.
Mother's Day Weekend Wildflower Show
Held annually the second weekend in May at the South Lodge of Silver Falls State Park. Cultivated varieties are also available for sale. Silver Falls State Park, 503-873-8681.
Silverton Pet Parade
May 18, 2002
A long-running Silverton tradition, the Pet Parade was started as a way for kids to get out and have fun after the Great Depression. Young and old parade through town on a Saturday with everything from ladybugs to llamas in tow. Chamber of Commerce, 503-873-5615.
Oregon Senior Olympics
May 25, 2002
This May track-and-field event has been a part of Silverton for 17 years. It is open to anyone over 40, the Oregon Senior Olympics encourages health and fitness throughout life. Silverton High School track. To register, call Amy Castle, 503-873-8577.

JUNE
Silverton Criterium
June 1-2, 2002
A two-day bicycling event the first weekend in June providing riders of all levels an opportunity to compete over the weekend. A road race to Silver Creek Falls on Saturday is followed by the criterium on Sunday. Steve Yenne, 503-364-3846.
Free Fish Day
Held on a morning in early June, this joint venture of Silverton Together, the Izaak Walton League and the City of Silverton gives everybody a chance to try a rod and reel up at the Silverton Reservoir. Silverton Together, 503-873-0405.
Historic Al Faussett Days
Al Faussett's 1928 plunge over 177-foot South Falls in a canvas canoe is commemorated each year at Silver Falls State Park. Present-day Faussett family members converge at the falls Father's Day weekend along with hundreds of visitors who are treated to a newsreel of the actual event. Silverton Hills Strawberry Festival
Coolidge-McClaine Park in Silverton is the scene for this Father's Day feast of delicious, fresh local strawberries with shortcake. Local musical acts entertain amidst the tall trees. A family tradition spanning generations. Homer Davenport Days Board, 503-873-5211.

Backyard Tour
July 13, 2002
Enjoy a self-guided tour of some of Silverton's finest residential gardens and landscapes. Tour a variety of styles in gardens, both large and small, including a century farm and a newly developed estate. Call 503-873-5558 or 503-873-7707.
Oregon Garden Summer Concert Series
The Teufel Amphitheater is the place to be at The Oregon Garden for a series of outdoor summer concerts. Performers range from country to symphonic, and all ages are welcome. July and August. The Oregon Garden, 503-874-8100.

AUGUST
Homer Davenport Days
August 2-4, 2002
The first Friday in August kicks off the annual three-day celebration of Silverton's favorite son, Homer Davenport. Events range from an international cartoon contest and an art show to a parade to a doubles tennis tournament. Homer Davenport Board, 503-873-5211.
Scotts Mills Summer Festival
August 11, 2002
Good, old-time fun including square dancing and a bike-coasting contest on the hill leading into downtown. An evening street dance is a great way to finish the celebration. Festival organizers, 503-873-3701.
Silverton Fine Arts Festival
August 17-18, 2002

Oktoberfest

Mt. Angel becomes a spirited Bavarian village full of oom-pah-pahs, sausages, and lederhosen. The four-day event, whose theme is “Capture an Alpine Delight,” features food, crafts, German music, dancing and an assortment of the world's finest beers.
